Burda Sleeping Mask

I made a sleeping mask. I don’t need a sleeping mask. At least not for its intended purpose!

It was actually my mom’s idea to sew myself a sleeping mask. I told her that Oscar would slap me at night to wake me up, and that I was scared he’d accidentally hurt my eyes. He’s a sweetheart, but he hasn’t figured out how to use his claws. Or he has, and he’s doing this on purpose because I haven’t given him enough treats! 😛 Anyway, my mom suggested a sleeping mask to protect my eyes.

This is Burda pattern you can find for free on their website. You can make a sleeping mask using interfacing or batting, depending on the level of cozy you prefer! I went for the slim version, but maybe I’ll use up old batting for a second mask. This is a true stash-busting project anyway! Originally, I had a dark blue fabric in mind, but didn’t find something I liked in my stash. Instead I dug out scraps from my Peonies dress.

It’s a ridiculously simple project. I finished my sleeping mask in about an hour from cutting out the pattern to the last stitch. Now we’ll see if it can protect me from Oscar’s claws! If it doesn’t, I’ll just whip up another one. I have a lot of fabric scraps to choose from, so I can see making several versions! It might make a cute gift, too.
