Last-minute presents! Or, how to make two gifts within 24 hours

Striped Handwarmers

These are quick little gifts for my aunt and uncle, who invited me over for Christmas Eve on short notice. So I decided to make matching handwarmers for them! I made up the pattern as I went along (well, it isn’t that complicated, is it) and used yarn I had left over from other projects. The pink and blue handwarmers are my favourite, I think I have to make them for myself as well.  I didn’t have aran weight black yarn for the others, so I used sport weight yarn double stranded. Since I only had one skein (and was in a hurry), I took both ends of it and started knitting it up that way, which proved to be … rather laborious. All in all though, a fun little project.

I hope everyone had a good time during the holidays!

(Notes on the pattern:

Two different colours of aran weight yarn. Knit in the round with 1×1 rib.

My aunt: CO 34 stitches. 6 rows blue, 6 x 4 rows of pink and blue. 2 rows pink. Start thumbhole on third row of pink – just stop knitting in the round and knit back and forth like a scarf for 8 rounds while keeping up the striping. Then go back to knitting in the round: 2 rows pink, 6 rows blue. Cast off, sew in the ends.

My uncle: CO 40 stitches. 6 rows black, 6 x 4 rows of green and black. 2 rows pink. Start thumbhole on third row of green – just stop knitting in the round and knit back and forth like a scarf for 8 rounds while keeping up the striping. Then go back to knitting in the round: 2 rows green, 6 rows black. Cast off, sew in the ends.)

  1. Konstanza, I’ve just discovered your blog via The Sweaty Knitter. How wonderful! I will definitely knit up the hand warmers very soon. It’s cold here in Canada! I’ll be stopping in often 🙂
