Ysolda Teague’s Icing Swirl Hat

DSC00761

I have a couple of bigger projects I need to post, but for now it’s just going to be a simple little hat. Life’s been crazy; I’ve started writing my BA thesis, then I got a nasty cold, then I strained a ligament in my ankle. On the bright side, I have a lot of my time on my hands right now that I can use to write …. and to knit, of course. I have this gorgeous new coat – well, technically it’s my mom’s and she lent it to me because she was afraid it’d be cold in Romania (it wasn’t), and when I came back I waited for two weeks or so whether she’d take it back. She didn’t, so I claimed it. 😛 Anyways. I have a lot of colourful hats that I love very much, in red, in yellow, etc, but they wouldn’t do combined with the coat unless I wanted to look like a clown exploded in my near vicinity. I remembered this awesome sparkly grey yarn I had seen at my LYS and decided a quick knit was just what I needed to cheer myself u over the ankle thing.

DSC00767Pattern: Icing Swirl Hat in size L (Ysolda Teague)

Yarn: Fashion Starlight Chunky (Rico Design)

I really do love this pattern (like all Ysolda Teague patterns, no surprise there) and this yarn. I breezed through it in an evening, and it was ready to wear the next morning! (I skipped blocking because I felt the yarn-overs showed well enough. It fits a bit too tight, though – next time I’ll use bigger needles for binding off. But isn’t it pretty? It sparkles! It has different shades of grey! There’s so many shitty Twilight and published Twilight fanfic jokes that could be made here. Don’t worry though! I’ll show restraint.

  1. Very cute! And it looks fantastic with that coat! Your mum clearly has excellent taste in colours because that red is just fantastic with the grey!
Ah! I remember writing my BA thesis! It was so much fun and I miss it (even though it did make me go a little crazy by the time I’d finished…!)! Enjoy the research – it’s my favourite bit!

    • Thank you! My mom will be pleased to hear about her superior taste in colour. 😉 But seriously, I LOVE the red of the coat. It’s perfect for cheerless november days.

It’s actually more fun than I expected that to be – thank God I took the time to plan beforehand so that I can be relaxed and calm writing it. I also get to learn how to work in an archive, which, after the initial shock of “holy shit, I can’t read a thing”, is pretty cool. 😀
