My mom is the harshest judge of crafting shenanigans, and especially the hats that I make for her. Her utmost priority is that they’re warm, and that the brim of the hat covers her ears. That’s two rather sensible demands, to be honest, but at least my first hat for her did not meet them and she won’t let me hear the end of it! 😉
For this hat, I made sure that the brim was definitely of ear-covering length by doubling the rows required in the pattern! It did, therefore, meet her approval (plus, the cables make for one warm hat) and she wore it every day since I gave it to her. Success!
Also, Meike taught me this really neat trick: how to knit cables without a cable needle! I’ve always avoided cables because I found them annoying, but now I see a bunch of cable projects in my future!
