’tis the time … when everyone and their mother posts about their Spotify Wrapped on social media. Obviously I have to jump on the bandwagon!
My Top Songs and Artists 2023
Ruby Ibarra has been my at the top of my song list with “US” and “Taking Names” for years. She and Rocky Rivera are my pinay heroes. The spoken word part in “US” by Faith Santilla is just … goosebumps! Whenever I get scared or anxious I listen to them to remember that, well, my DNA contains building blocks made from the mud of over 500 years of resistance and survival.
Funny story about “Girl Anachronism” by the Dresden Dolls: in my early twenties I went to music therapy for my depression. The therapist assigned us the task to bring two songs that said something about ourselves. I was pretty much over being psychoanalyzed at this point, so one of my two songs was, you guessed it, “Girl Anachronism”. The others were … confused. Whenever I hear the song, I have a giggle over that!

My top podcasts aren’t really a surprise either. I actually wrote about some of them here. What can I say – I just like true crime and politics!
To be honest, I listen more to podcasts than music these days. I’m a lonely PhD candidate and have a weird parasocial relationship with my favourite podcast hosts.
It’s just … there are so many interesting ones out there! I just don’t have enough hours in my days to catch up on all of them, haha.
