Weekend Update: Biased

Good morning my lovelies! I’m in a very good mood today because I just had 11 hours of sleep and feel incredibly refreshed and energetic. I’m also loving this weekly update thing where I can just ramble randomly about recent crafting exploits or personal stories!

First things first: I’m now on Facebook! You can add me if you follow this link or click on the page plugin on the right sidebar of this blog. I’ve been toying with the idea of a Facebook page for a while now, but was sort of intimidated by the effort it takes to actually reach a decent amount of people. Then my friends told me I was overthinking this as usual. After some thought I got over myself and it’s been fun so far.

On Friday, Meike and I visited the Stoffmarkt Holland in Mannheim. I was looking for some jersey fabric for everyday t-shirts and came across these anchor and stars prints. Couldn’t resist! I had planned on something uni and simple but oh well. Then I picked up really cheap fabric for a practice Hawthorn, and some bias tape.

The bias tape was for this garment that’s been nothing but a headache so far. A detailed project post as to why will follow, but for now I’ll just say that I’ve been wrangling with this pattern since January. Since this pattern originally has a waistband and darts in the back, I struggled sewing a normal hem. Hence the bias tape! I attached it this morning; it’s nearly done now, thank all the crafting goddesses, I only need drawstring for the hoodie.

I’m also planning a new cosplay, a steampunk Poison Ivy. I’ve played around with different designs, then settled on the one above (on the right’s the back view, in the middle the front view, disregard the left one). It’s a three layered costume in different greens with a “bustle” made out of ivy leaves underneath a layer of organza. I have no idea if that’s going to work out, but that suspense is half the fun.

I already ordered taffeta in three different shades of green online. The second one is darker than I thought it would be, but I think that’s going to work all the same. I also bought rayon lining and bonings so I can actually start with the bodice today. I’m excited!

There’s bad news on the knitting front, though. As you can maybe remember, I was going to make the Revolution Shrug from Needles and Artifice with this alpaca silk blend. Unfortunately, something’s wrong with the pattern that I can’t seem to figure out; I’m going to try and write to the designer, but the wedding’s soon and I just don’t have the time to fiddle around with pattern alterations anyway.

I hope y’all have good Sunday!
